Irina Gulyakina was born in Klintsy, Bryansk region, Russia in 1980, most of her childhood was spent in town Borovsk, Kaluga region. Now artist lives and works in Moscow. After graduating the Moscow State Technical University by Bauman and British Higher School of Art and Design, she had been working in the field of web design and advertising industry for over 10 years.
In August 2020 Irina Gulyakina defended her diploma in the course Contemporary Art at the Higher School 'Sreda Obucheniya'.

Since September 2020, Irina Gulyakina is an active participant in the artist-run initiative '22', as an artist, curator and manager. Participated in group artistic projects in Moscow, Russia: Winzavod, Zverevsky Center of the Contemporary Art, Gallery 'Sreda' cube.Moscow, ZIL Cultural Center, MMOMA educational center, GARAGE.DIGITAL program; participated in group art project in Linz, Austria - Ars Electronica 2022.

In her projects, the artist refers to the texts of the 'cosmists' of the early twentieth century, avant-garde poets and modern critical theory; explores the theme of food, plants, the human body. Irina Gulyakina works with different various mediums of artistic expression: painting, video, performance, installation.

Together with Elena Shmakova, Irina Gulyakina taught lectures at the higher school 'Sreda Obucheniya'.

At the beginning of the 20th century, V. Vernadsky, in the article "Autotrophy of Humanity", casts doubt on the "basic" need for food. "Nutrition, although a great geochemical phenomenon of the cycle in the biosphere, is not something fundamental, unchanged and necessary for life". This article and further study of Russian thought at the beginning of the 20th century served as a starting point in my interest in the potency of "descending" forces: decomposition, food consumption, digestion, transformation into soil, into a plant - their projective and transforming potential.
My artistic practice always connects with basis medium – human body, that's why I learn a lot about body practices: contemporary dance, performance, theatre – as well train they too.

Research is the mandatory beginning of each project and the building story, myth, space. Thus, it is quite difficult to designate a specific medium of artistic expression. I am captivated by transdisciplinarity, working with various media: painting, video, sound, performance, installation, text.

In theoretical studies, in addition to Russian thought of the early twentieth century: cosmism, avant-garde poets, - I turn to modern critical theory: texts by Donna Haraway, Ben Woodard, Timothy Morton, Reza Negarestani, Yoel Regev etc.
